Countdown Begins with 1 week till takeoff!

Kayaking, Assignments, hot pools, chilling in the store, coffee and balance classes have come to occupy my life for the last few weeks. It has been full on with training and I have been cramming in as much Uni work as possible before my ever awaited departure on Saturday the 29th of May! That is when my 2010 voyage of fun will begin. Yes, it is that time of year again...when the leaves turn orange, temperature turns negative, water begins to rise and I head to the Northern part of the world to pursue my kayaking ambitions! Jumping onboard flight NZ7 I am hoping for a smooth ride into the land of fast cars, movie stars and obesity! That’s right, I am heading to the United States of America! To kick off my adventure I will be Extreme Racing in the small town of Vail in the depths of Colorado, USA.
This weekend we will have a slalom race here on the Kaituna River along with some beer and bratwursts at the store to follow. Then around Wednesday afternoon next week I will truck on down to sunny Otaki to see the folks and pack my bags for the big trip ahead.

Mangahau Training Camp

We have had a training camp here at Mangahau for the last few days. Fortunately it rained so the river has flown everyday all day! Although the weather has been cold and testing it has been great to be here on this great White Water course. Today we had Race Simulation. I was feeling good for first run and felt that my preparation was good. My first run was solid but I lost a bit of time in the last upstream and took a touch. My time was 108sec. Luuka did a 107sec clean and Mike did a 89 clean.
Today we are heading back to Rotorua. I will be picking up my new Bliss stick boat on the way:)
